Governance of coral reefs
Marine resource governance structures will be categorised and mapped using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Through case studies the project will identify links between governance structure and the implementation of reef management, particularly to generate a regional approach for cooperation among agencies.
Social Network Analyses will be conducted, in part, to determine the most effective ways of disseminating information. People’s perception of the environment and the identification of the most effective means of communicating complex scientific information will also be studied.
Through interviews and focus groups, an understanding of the environmental, social and economic connections among people and organisations will become clearer. Ultimately this project aims to develop an adaptive governance framework to help decision-makers both at government and stakeholder levels to respond to the changing world and participate actively in future reef management.
